Checked all reviews and bought. Tool shot in staples but must use short extension cord otherwise not enough power. Unit worked well for shooting approx. 3 staples then jammed- yes I used recommended staples. Did this repeatedly: gave up in frustration and used my reliable old heavy hand stapler to install insulation. Tires hand but works every time. Do not recommend this unit and don't see any electric model sold anywhere that meets my needs. Sears sold one that lasted for 40 yrs but no longer. Perhaps pneumatic but expense not justified. Praise to Amazon for full refund.

we purchased a surebonder 5960 for upholstering .. we were frustrated with our 3 old staplers (frequent jambs and failing to fully seat almost every staple).. i would constantly be repairing at least one of the staplers while another was being used .. so we looked for a better machine ... at first we were disapointed with our new surebonder because our "standard" staples (3 brands) would not fit or work reliably .. you know the game . they make things off a little so you are forced to use their brand supplies .. so i thought here we go again .. but i decided to measure precisely all dimentions of the staples to see what was wrong .. i was surprised to find that the sure bonder staples were the only ones we had that were the proper size .. the others were too narrow or too wide or off in some other dimention like wire width or thickness .. the other brands were off from their claimed sizes .. the sure bonder staples were right on the button and they worked flawlessly .. so here i was blaming the surebonder when the problem was with the other manufacturers ..maybe that was part of our problem right along ... one could blame surebonder for not accepting these out of spec parts but i am sure they would have to compromise somewhere else to do that .. so surebonder changed, in my mind, from the villan to the hero .. i would advise to not trust some of the other large companies that make staples unless you can try their product.. perhaps they are the ones that cheat on size so that you have to use their staples in their stapler .. the surebonder staples are precise and low cost so its a good idea to use them with the tool .. i wonder how many reliability issues are actually caused by the staples themselves .. now that we have good staples the machine more than doubled our productivity.. we no longer have to repair the tool every few staples.. no longer have to hammer in unseated staples .. the model 5960 seems to have just the right amount of power for most jobs .. a lot more than our old staplers .. one small problem we had was the safety device that prevent staples from firing if the gun isnt up against its target .. that works fine and is a good idea except when trying to staple in a grove, then its a problem .. it needs a manual over-ride for those rare situations .. so we are happy with the construction, quality, power and price. just make sure you use quality staples that are actually the size they claim to be .. it sure is nice to be able to just pick up the tool and use it without hassle ..

I used this to screen my side porch last week...my first attempt at using it. Set-up was extremely simple. However, it's imperative that you allow this gun to have all the 'juice' it can get. The instruction booklet made it clear that heavy duty extension cords and a free outlet were necessary for the optimal performance of the gun. Be sure you follow these instructions...they really are the key to successful operation.
I keep 150' of cord available for all of my electric yard tools so I just plugged the gun into the cord, assuming that if the cord runs my lawn mower and weed-eater, it would surely power a staple gun. I was wrong.
Initially, the gun wouldn't even staple a cardboard box reliably. When I tried it on the pressure-treated oak studs on the porch, the staples barely penetrated the wood. I was about to become very disillusioned (and disappointed) when it dawned on me that perhaps my extension cord was too long or that a section of it might not be as heavy-duty as the stapler needed. I took the newest, heaviest-duty cord (25') and put it into a dedicated socket and PRESTO! That gun turned into an almost perfect tool! It popped staples into the oak studs quickly and precisely. We had a couple of jams but I'm not sure there's a stapler alive that doesn't jam occasionally; they were quick to resolve and not a problem.
I'm hoping to use it too for re-covering some upholstered furniture. I think it will do a great job since it handled the porch with such ease.
I'm giving the gun a 4-star rating instead of 5-star because I think the manual could give a little more info about the different staple/brad/nail types the gun uses...i.e. which is best for what task. I also can't begin to guess-timate how well the gun will hold up. It feels fairly substantial for what I need it to do but I'm a casual user. Overall, though, at this point, I'm very satisfied!

Surebonder 5960 Professional Electric Staple and Nailer Gun This is possibly the best and easiest to use stapler I or my wife have ever used. It is so easy to load that even a child could do it and the trigger is easy to pull. When you do a quick double shot the staples might jam but they are very easy to remove by opening up the staple magazine and pulling them out with your fingers. This tool is well built and should give us years of service.

I have just received this staple gun and started using it on an insulation project. After 2 days of usage it has not jammed once and works, pretty much as I expected it to. The only criticisms I might have is that occasionally it does not drive a 3/8" staple all the way in, and I have to tap the staple with a hammer to drive it the rest of the way. BUT that is much better than any of the hand operated staplers I had been using which were failing almost every time. (the wood I am driving the staples in is old fir under cold winter temperatures). I suspect the only way to get better performance is to go with an air compressor system that the professionals use (but way too expensive for my budget!!) Also, it would be nice to have an override over the safety feature that prevents the staple gun from firing unless it is fully pressed against a hard surface. Sometimes it is difficult to position the stable gun so it will fire, in tight places and corners... Kudos for the long chord it comes with!
Update: After 3 projects (stapling insulation, roofing underlayment, and plastic vapor barrier) I am going to downgrade my rating of this staple gun. It simply does not have enough power to drive staples into even soft fir studs any more. I constantly have to drive the staples in with a hammer, and the staple gun is jamming more and more often. Often it will try to drive two staples at once now. So initially it seemed to work ok, but it has rapidly deteriorated in performance and I pretty much have gone back to my old hand stapler with does a better job now. So I cannot recommend this product anymore.
