 "Great Value!" 2010-04-16
By G. Fields (Central Virginia)
I had been drooling over this compressor kit at a local retailer but could not justify the $290 purchase price. Having had good experiences with other tools at a factory outlet, I was delighted to find it factory reconditioned on Amazon.

The kit arrived as promised but without tool oil. The first time I used it I found out why it was returned to the factory as it leaked air and would not build enough pressure to turn off. I completed the small project I had started and traced the problem to a leak around the threads (partially stripped) of the pressure regulator's adjusting knob. I was able to make temporary repairs and contacted the shipper. Rather than return the unit, they sent me a new pressure regulator. My repairs are still holding and I have a replacement if it fails again.

I am very pleased with my purchase and service after the sale. I would recommend the kit to any DIY'er, cabinet maker and trim carpenter.

I bought this kit because I was remodeling my family room. Best $$$ I ever spent. It took me less than 3 hours to do the trim and base boards in a 850 sq ft room with this baby. I'm going to replace all the trim in my house just so I can keep using this thing. Love it.

I bought this compressor combo at Lowe's 3 weeks ago. Went home to play with it and discovered the stapler didn't work. Took it back to lowe's and they replaced it. Used it today for the first real project and the cheap plastic pressure controller stripped out and failed. The part cost me $14 and the shipping is $16! LOL!!!

"Great Tool for the "Do-It-Yourself" Projects" 2010-04-10
By M. Minutella (Clifton, NJ USA)
Used my son's, and just had to have one. Great for putting up molding and trim. Plan on building some new planters and storage cabinets. Easy to use. Ample hose length and the guns are easy to handle. Unit is lightweight for easy moving, but will handle heavy jobs. I picked up the Air gun attachment, which comes in handy for cleaning the saw dust out of my power saws. Good quality at a great price.

I purchased this on-line rather because it included the combo kit that I could not find in stores. It has been great. I changed out 7 windows and used this to help replace all of them. The compressor and nailer worked great just like I knew they would. Had an oil spill during from the bad oil bottle included but all else is great.

 "I love it!" 2010-04-16
By RoninUT (Utah)
My wife bought me this nailer to use while remodeling our basement. I developed tendinitis in my wrist from building a 12'X16' storage barn last summer, and I sure could have used this then!

It makes driving 16 penny framing nails a cinch, particularly in places where using a hammer is awkward. From a layperson's standpoint, this is a great choice for driving nails without shelling out the big bucks for a framing nailer. It fits in your tool box, costs about the same as a high quality framing hammer, and takes a lot of the work out of driving nails. I built 2 walls and a door frame and header in my basement with this little tool and it made a pain in the neck job a piece of cake.

For the price it's almost disposable compared to a real framing nailer, but it's built well enough that for small jobs around the house you will probably never need to replace it.

It was nice that they included a bottle of air tool oil in the package as well.

"Much better than I anticipated" 2010-03-02
By Horse (California)
UPDATE: I have now had this product for a small amount of time, and had some small problems with it.

It started leaking air. I removed the quick disconnect and put some teflon tape on it; still leaking. I removed the teflon tape and used rectorseal; still leaking. Come to find it out it was actually leaking through the back(go figure). I snugged up the back with an allen wrench and it is now fine. The item was not dropped or abused, though it was used.

The first time I used this I almost put a nail through my hand, but that is a good thing; let me explain.

I thought this would work "OK", so the first time I used it just for fun. I had my hand on the other side of the 2x6, and tat-tat-tat all the sudden the nail came through the board several inches from my hand. I was amazed at how quickly it sunk the nail, a 16d went through a single 2x like butter.

I thought I would use this sometimes, but find I'm using it very frequently. It's great for putting nails in straps, especially if the strap is hard to reach or in an inconvenient place.

I am amazed that Framers throughout the U.S are making their poor helpers tap hurricane ties in place in small niches with a hammer.

They would save money by buying this for their helpers, the hurricane ties would be up much quicker saving labor costs.

If you have a compressor and do construction, you should own this.

The only downside? A boss can't yell, "What are you doing up there turtle, having a tea party? Those straps aren't nailing themselves..." etc.

Saw this palm nailer on "cool tools." Couldn't believe its size and power. Did not leak air as other reviews stated, and amazingly hammered 3 1/2 inch nails almost flush. Takes a little practice, but does a great job, especially in tight places.

"I agree completely with Victor Agresti's review" 2009-11-16
By Kerry Pierce (Detroit, MI USA)
I own a Ridgid full size palm nailer and bought the Grip-Rite Mini nailer because I had to work in some spaces where the full size nailer wouldn't fit. My Ridgid drives all kind of nails, big or small, quickly and surely, but the Ridgid's size is a limitation just like a regular hammer. So, enter the Grip-Rite Mini. It does work, fairly well, on big nails and gets into places the big nailer will not.

My Grip-Rite leaked air, right out of the box, requiring tightening of 3 of the 4 cap screws to get it to stop. After fixing that, it worked fine, within its limitations. Contrary to what the company material says, the Grip-Rite Mini won't drive 16d nails well, if at all. The heads on 16d bright common nails are too large to go into the nose piece (impact socket). The opening in the nose piece is just slightly smaller than the average diameter of those nail heads found in a box of Grip-Rite 16d 3 1/2" bright common nails. Since the Mini wouldn't accept and drive their own common nails, I switched to 16d 3 1/2" finish nails for the spots I needed to use the Mini nailer. The shanks are smaller on the finish nails than on the common nails and still, the Mini nailer had difficulty driving them fully.

As a side note, I also own the Senco PC1195 Mini Palm Nailer which won't accept the big nail heads on the 16d common nails either, which was why I bought the Grip Rite Mini. Senco's manual tells you that their mini nailer has a head limitation and won't accept anything larger than .339" and the Grip Rite Mini manual states a head limitation size of 5/16 or .311". (The moral to that story is that I should have gone to Grip-Rite's site and downloaded the manual, instead of only reading the sales hype before buying the nailer.)

Measuring several 16d bright common heads revealed an average head size of well over .350". Measuring the heads on a dozen 12d 3 1/8" coated sinkers gave an average of over .330", but all of them easily fit into the opening of the Grip Rite Mini nose piece, which actually measured .350" on my unit.

In short, either Mini nailer is nice to have around, to complement a full size palm nailer. If you're wanting a palm nailer that simply works well on anything you want to throw at it, my advice would be to buy a full size nailer, like the DEWALT D51180 Heavy-Duty Palm Nailer or the Bostitch PN100K Impact Nailer Kit, instead of the Mini. The difference in power and ease of use is well worth the extra money for a full sized palm nailer, in my opinion.

Great gun for < $40. I've only had a misfire or two after a good 6 months of use. Carries the Stanley/Bostitch warranty, and it's dirt cheap. No sense in complaining about a few minor issues when you make a conscious decision to go with the lower end, refurbished model. Bostitch makes a much more expensive 18 ga. nailer; if you want perfection, drop the coin on that. For my money... you can't beat this little guy. And who doesn't love "Bostitch Yellow" nail guns??

I've wanted a 2-inch brad nailer ever since I first used my Porter-Cable 1 3/8-inch brad nailer on some trim - it just didn't have the reach to go through the trim, drywall, and then into a stud.

Then I found the Bostitch factory-reconditioned nailer for a GREAT price! It's exactly what I wanted. It even came with a new set of 2" brad nails!

No need to buy new!

 "Factory Reconditioned Brad Nailer" 2010-05-14
By Rob (New Jersey)
Whenever ordering a Bostitch Factory-Reconditioned product, you always take the Bostitch gamble as to what you are going to get. This time, I was lucky and received a working product in very good condition. My last "gamble" was on a finishing nailer that did not include its accessories, the paint was quite marred, and the screws were rusty.

Mine came with an opened (but appears relatively full) pack of 2" brads. After cleaning the nailer, I hooked it up to my compressor and fired 20 nails in fairly rapid succession. 1 in 20 caused a double shot. This particular model is much more annoying to unjam as you have to unscrew three hex screws to remove the front casing, whereas on my older finishing nailer, it has 2 easy to operate clips.

Each shot (with the exception of the double shot) was consistent in depth and the easy depth adjuster worked as well as I expected.

Overall, for the greatly reduced price, if you are willing to take the Bostitch gamble, it could pay off. Worst case, Amazon is generally very good an making things right. On my aforementioned finishing nailer, they gave me a 20% refund to cover the cost of the missing parts. I honestly would not pay the full price for this product new, but with the reconditioned pricing (and the gift certificate I used), its a great nailer for the price.

I ordered through Amazon and it was shipped promptly by Bostitch. It's looks to be in like new condition and functions properly without any problems. I have used it on several small home projects and am completely satisfied with it's operation. I don't make my living with such tools so I can not comment on how it would hold up to constant use, but for a project guy like me it seems to be just fine and a good value. I recommend it and would buy it again myself if I had to do it over.

"WOW, great tool and Recommded" 2009-11-05
By Electric Z (Oregon)
Upon receiving this stapler I was using it within 10 minutes of the UPS delivery. It came with the air fitting already installed. I slapped some 1/2" staples in it and I was off working. It has a great ergonomic handle that feels great in your hand and is lightweight. My wife likes it too!

The stapler is of the high Porter-Cable expected quality. It made short work of my first project and expect many more hours of use. This tool is made for working. As fast you can pull the trigger the staples are set deep and no jamming. Recommended and the price was very reasonable.

Here it is a month later and wanted to add a couple thoughts since first purchase. First, it is working great and I am very happy.

Next, some have commented about a possible safety feature missing in that staples can be freely shot out, (no device needs to be pushed against the object being stapled first). After using it a lot, quite frankly I would find it a nuisance if there was such device. When working with fabric or some other material it would be a major impediment to have to reposition the stapler, push down and then pull the trigger. When stapling many staples with its current design you can just slide the stapler to the next position pull the trigger and move on. Much more efficient and faster.

Right out of the box, I used it all day reupholstering 6 dining chairs. Over all, it worked well, little to no recoil, unlike some nail guns. There were a few misfires, but I think that was due more to the off brand staples I used. **One caution - the staples that were in the "frequently purchased" line, included the Surebonder 300-38-5M and 300-516-5M, which indicated to me those were the staples I needed. I should have read closer, because they weren't the right staples, and simply did not fit the 9600. That's why I was using an off brand from a big-box store.** Otherwise, for this novice re-upholsterer the 9600 is a nice staple gun, and I would purchase it again.

By Metal Polisher (Waterford, MI USA)
I mostly use heavier gauge staples, however, when I need T-50 staples, I found this to be far superior to a manual Arrow stapler that I had used in the past.

Having lots of T-50's in every size for hammer tackers, I bought this to use T-50's in an air-powered tool when I need many, rapid fastenings. This is a great stapler and at a great price: case is included, and it has a safety so it permits bump fire operation, unlike my dedicated Porter-Cable US-58 which has no safety, and fires with each trigger pull, with no bump fire.

It's small and nearly lays in one hand, but easy to load and use.

WHAT IS LATENT DEMAND AND THE P.I.E.?

The concept of latent demand is rather subtle. The term latent typically refers to something that is dormant, not observable, or not yet realized. Demand is the notion of an economic quantity that a target population or market requires under different assumptions of price, quality, and distribution, among other factors. Latent demand, therefore, is commonly defined by economists as the industry earnings of a market when that market becomes accessible and attractive to serve by competing firms. It is a measure, therefore, of potential industry earnings (P.I.E.) or total revenues (not profit) if a market is served in an efficient manner. It is typically expressed as the total revenues potentially extracted by firms. The “market” is defined at a given level in the value chain. There can be latent demand at the retail level, at the wholesale level, the manufacturing level, and the raw materials level (the P.I.E. of higher levels of the value chain being always smaller than the P.I.E. of levels at lower levels of the same value chain, assuming all levels maintain minimum profitability).

The latent demand for manufacturing power-driven hand tools, drills, screwguns, circular saws, chain saws, staplers, and nailers is not actual or historic sales. Nor is latent demand future sales. In fact, latent demand can be lower either lower or higher than actual sales if a market is inefficient (i.e., not representative of relatively competitive levels). Inefficiencies arise from a number of factors, including the lack of international openness, cultural barriers to consumption, regulations, and cartel-like behavior on the part of firms. In general, however, latent demand is typically larger than actual sales in a country market.

For reasons discussed later, this report does not consider the notion of “unit quantities”, only total latent revenues (i.e., a calculation of price times quantity is neve

By KRASSEL (SPANAWAY, WA USA)
I have had this gun awhile. I bought it cause it was inexpensive and I don't use nails or staples a lot, but when I need em I do need em. As the wise man said "only a rich guy can afford cheap tools".

First of all the soft nose does prevent you causing a divot in your workpiece, but the plunger makes up for it. It really makes a "slot" in your wood. Hard to hide, unless you have a putty that match's the wood perfectly. It drives the nail or staple quite deep and even with the air adjusted lower it will sometimes drive the nail or staple too deep, leaving it protruding out the backside of the two pieces. Very irratating.

This tool is prone to "double taps"....firing twice..one on top of the other...keep a pair of needle nose pliers handy...more scar's on the wood.It also will pick up two nails at the same time and try and drive em into the same hole (keep those needle nose handy). It jams a lot. The "adjustment" for nail length is a pain.

It is comfortable to hold and lightweight, other than that I can't recommend it.
